Sous Vide Cooking

As a bit of a companion-piece to Claire’s post yesterday, I figured I’d add a little additional information about Sous Vide-ing.

When I first described Sous Vide cooking to my mother she immediately said, “Cooking in plastic bags?! That’ll give you cancer!” Now, my mom’s oncological background aside, the idea of cooking something in a plastic baggy is a little scary until you know more about it.

Champagne Cocktails

Last week I spent ~40 hours in airports and airplanes, so when I finally got home Saturday morning, it was time to celebrate.

While Claire was finishing up the veggies to go with our Baby Back Sous Vide I walked over to the Lil’ Cricket convenience store for a bottle of cheap champagne.

I knew we had a couple of mixers that’d go with it perfectly. Namely:

Harry Potter Furor

Anyone who has spent any time with Claire knows that she’s a huge Harry Potter fan.

She was in that generation of kids (which I missed by a couple of years) that grew up with these books. Claire’s approach to them is pretty amusing and since I’ve always enjoyed them, too, we watch the movies and read the books and have discussed them pretty in depth quite a bit.

Because of those discussions, I know that Claire’s going to freak out for a little bit when the next movie comes out.  I’m getting myself prepared for it and this will not help…
