Our first newlywed Friday

It may have only been a three-day work week for us, but as our first weekend back in Charleston as newlyweds, we felt the need to celebrate. Of course, our celebration is just our style:

Champagne and palmetto cheese, plus a splurge on St. Germaine: some of our favorite life necessities.

Have a wonderful Friday night!

Then comes marriage.

Jamey and I are sitting in the Atlanta airport, waiting to board for our honeymoon flight to Belize. Already everything is a blur; we were so exhausted last night that by the time we got to the Ritz downtown, all we could do is order a beer and a burger with room service. It might have been the perfect start to married life.

I will give you a detailed wedding post soon, especially once we have some pictures. We are counting on all of you to upload some to Facebook!

For now, though, I think it’s fair to say we couldn’t have asked for anything more. From the ceremony to the reception, everything was absolutely perfect and how we imagined.

Thank you to everyone for your blessings, well wishes, thoughts and support. We are completely overwhelmed by how much your love means to us, and that feeling certainly hit me the second I stepped foot in the church and saw all who were there to celebrate with us. I couldn’t hold back the tears even if I tried.

What a beautiful weekend and the start to a lifetime of happiness. Jamey and I will never be able to express just how amazing you all are and what your love means to us. Thank you again and again!

Always,
Jamey & Claire

Now, off to Belize!

A Rock and an Ocean

It’s amazing how quickly the time has flown by.

Roughly ten months ago, Jamey proposed. We had no idea what this year had in store for us, and we had no idea the amount of time, effort, love and care that went into the wedding planning experience. Then again, I suppose you can’t really know until you’ve been through it and are doing a lot of it by yourself (with many wonderful family members’ assistance), then suddenly it’s the week of the wedding and it feels like there’s still so much to do.

Presidential Decisions.

Okay, this is a big deal, so Jamey and I had to resort to the blog to ask for your lovely opinion.

Jamey has a specific piece of music in mind for when we first enter our reception as Mr. and Mrs. James Monahan. If you are familiar with some of our more quirky interests and habits, you might be familiar with the fact that Jamey and I are huge West Wing fans. As in, we’ve lost entire Saturdays to watching episodes of this show for hours on end.

If you’ve never watched the West Wing, you are seriously missing out. I implore you head to the internet or Netflix or wherever you get your TV episodes to download or rent Season 3 of this show. Right now. Have you gone yet? Why are you still reading?

Now, there are certain wedding-related things that have come up over the course of our planning where Jamey and I have come to a point of disagreement. Right now, this is one of those instances. Jamey is of the mindset that we enter our reception – our first public appearance as Mr. and Mrs. James Monahan – to this particular theme, from none other than the introduction of every single West Wing episode:

Yeah, tell me about it. It is ridiculous, but as Jamey would argue, “Ridiculously awesome!”

This is where we turn to you, gentle readers. (Or probably not so gentle in this case, since I can see Jamey casting the net far and wide across the internets so that he can win this poll in any way possible.) Granted, this poll won’t necessarily be the deciding factor, but I suppose it will give him more clout (and a sizably larger head) to argue his point that it is indeed the right choice of music for our grand reception entrance.

So, what do you think?

Wedding Chores

In the midst of all the hub-bub we’re currently involved in, there are a few bright points. Very few if you don’t like dresses, flowers, and talking about dresses and flowers…

So tonight’s order, straight from Claire’s Mom, was to decide on our signature cocktail at the reception.

So, I present to you, my homework:

Where were we…

Well, well, well. What have we been doing these past few weeks?

This might be the longest hiatus the blog has yet seen, and I assure you we have no good excuses. Jamey might, since he’s been on the road quite a bit the past couple weeks, which is why I’m getting this post in now before he gets home and is an evening distraction once more. (See you soon, honeybunch!) Still, we’ve had some notable developments that are worth noting in the wedding planning and life planning arena, in general:

1. My dress came in! I made a whirlwind trip home this past weekend, which resulted in a 6 a.m. flight out to Atlanta Saturday morning and a 9 a.m. flight back into Charleston on Sunday. However, the 27-hour trip was fruitful; my mom and I scooted off to the alterations lady, giving her ample time to have the dress altered and ready by the Monday before the big day (keeping my fingers crossed that all goes to plan).

2. Jamey and I became godparents! We mentioned this activity over Labor Day weekend, I still think it was pretty special. I’ve never been an aunt before, so the fact that Jamey and I are now beholden to a little baby niece until she is a grown-up is pretty cool. We even got a fun photo of the Monaclan:

The whole enchilada. Props to my dad for taking this pic!
